The company currently has a vacancy for a motivated, professional and attentive to detail Health and Safety Manager to join their team and drive company Health and Safety initiatives and programmes. This position requires someone who is able to work in a fast paced, pressurized environment and travel between branches. The successful candidate will:


  • Ensure compliance with Company safety regulations and adherence to safety standards, including safety induction and training
  • Promote and ensure adherence to the safety policy and procedures
  • Keep management up to date and informed about legislative requirements regarding health and safety requirements.
  • Create safety systems and procedures and develop training programmes to enhance safe working conditions
  • Review and update emergency procedures as and when necessary
  • Conduct site inspections and audits as required identifying and minimizing the risk to company and employees
  • Identify unsafe acts, conditions, and hazards, investigate root causes and identify corrective and preventative actions
  • Conduct workplace Hazard Identification and Risk Assessments
  • Design and implement responses to the above mentioned HIRA’s
  • Inspect the place of work to determine whether any machinery, plant, equipment, substance, appliances or process is of such nature liable to cause bodily injury to any person working in the place of work
  • Investigate any accident, near-miss incident, dangerous occurrence or occupational disease that occurred in the place of work,
  • Design and implement responses to limit or prevent a recurrence thereof
  • Compile and submit health and safety related reports to management and third parties
  • Liaise with Department of Employment and Labour as and when required i.e. regarding Sec 24 incidents, general inspections, etc.
  • Responsible for monitoring contractor and vendor compliance when working on SA Metal Group sites
  • Assist in administration of Company Certificate of Registration with the National Nuclear Regulator.


Qualifying Experience:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • BTech in Safety Management
  • Technical certificates in safety management (NEBOSH IGC/ICC/IEC, SAMTRAC, COMSOC, HIRA, RCAT, ITIS, etc)
  • Experience/qualification in environmental management advantageous.
  • Experience in training of employees
  • Knowledge of Municipal By-Laws (Ekurhuleni, Tshwane, Govan Mbeki)
  • Computer Literacy in MS Word, Excel and Outlook
  • 5 - 7 years’ experience in a production/mining/construction environment
  • Registration with SACPCMP as CHSM
  • Experience in the management and administration of COID claims
  • Professional membership with industry body such as SAIOSH
  • Hands on practical approach to the job
